This thread is awesome! Absolutely what I was looking for. I got a Samsung i770 Saga on eBay and tried activating it today but cannot do so without the $30/month data package. I talked to several reps, when I asked, Can you tell me why this phone needs a data package in order to be activated? and they kept saying, Because it's a smartphone. Yeah, I know that, but why? Will it function as a phone without the data pack? Two reps said, No, it won't. It's a computer before it's a phone and that's just the way Samsung manufactures it. I got switched over to tech support and they said, No, it would function without a data plan, but Verizon requires it.

Talked to another rep and supervisor about it, finally I got an answer that seemed, at least somewhat satisfactory. The supervisor said, They don't tell us why they do it, but I think it's because people were getting these smartphones without data plans and racking up all these data charges - 100's and 1,000s of $$. So, now Verizon just requires you to have it.

Okay, I said, That makes sense I guess. At least, it's the best explanation I've heard. Bottom line, people are too dumb to use a smartphone and everyone is penalized for this. Plus, Verizon wants to make an extra $30 every month. But yeah, why do you need WiFi if you've got unlimited data?

Anyway, great blog. It's awesome. Will order one of these off eBay today. Anybody want a Samsung Saga i770? Real cheap? Check eBay!

Frank, thanks so much for getting involved. I fear the worst for America. I feel that although some of us know right now that this is a bad thing, the majority of Americans cannot just look at history and see that other countries that have tried socialism, have always failed. I fear we will have to go through it ourselves to "realize" it is a bad thing. For example, with this current issue of health-care...we have the BEST health-care system in the entire WORLD, but this Obama administration has already trained people to complain and whine, and if they do that enough they will get a handout from the government. What happened to WORKING and EARNING your way? I get over $350 a month taken out of my pay for healtcare just for me and my wife and 2yr old, but guess what? When I see that charge on my paystub, it makes me proud. It makes me proud that I am taking care of my family, doing the right thing, and not trying to throw my responsibility onto someone else or the government. These Obama-ites have been trained like little spoiled children that they will get anything and everything they want if they whine about it long enough. What happened to pulling yourself up by the bootstraps and getting your hands dirty? I always think of that clip of the black woman who when she heard that Obama got elected, she said, "Obama got elected! I don't have to pay my house payment anymore. I won't have to pay my car payment anymore." Are you serious? Have people gotten so lazy and selfish that they expect this to happen? You have got to be kidding me! Oh, and don't even get me started on illegal aliens. I get called a racist for wanting to enforce laws to protect this nation. We have people in Dallas, from Mexico, saying that "Texas is stolen land", and that it is rightfully theirs, and we have a president mandating that we need to stop telling them to learn English, and need to teach our kids to learn Spanish....WHAT?! Get out of our lives! I am not racist, because I am anti-ANYONE come over the border legally...white, black, brown, yellow, green, purple! I don't care what nationality you are. If you are from England, and in the USA illegally, then GET OUT! I am so sick of this. (OK, I will stop)

Yes, the XV6900 is what I currently use, and have for nearly 2 years now. It is a great phone, and can make/receive calls clearly and send TXT, but you need a data plan to sent picture/video messages. I do not use this feature, but smartphones require data to send pix/flix, where as 'dumbphones' do not reuire a data plan. It is backwards logic, I know, but how the networks do business. By default the XV6900 ships with Windows Mobile, bu if you are willing to forgo the warranty/tech support then you can flash to Android OS.

See my guide here on how to flash the XV6900 to Android: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636024

Whoa, that is weird...I have never heard of that. Try playing the "00000.m2ts" file on your computer, after BD Rebuilder is complete (before you burn). Is the file 1hr and 7minutes, or does it continue on? If it is only that long, then did you rip the disc to the harddrive first, before running it through BD Rebuilder? I know that when you rip directly from the disc to the final output you can have problems, which is why I always recommend making an image of the source disc, on your HDD first. Let me know what you find; I am curious if I can make my guide better,

That's awesome to hear Mike! I definitely recommend the Pioneer BDR-203. If you want a newer model than the 203, then I still recommend sticking with the Pioneer brand. They are by far the more reliable CD/DVD/BD burners on the market. I would not trust my burns to any other brand. Also, when you end up buying blank media, always go for the Taiyo-Yuden brand. I know that sounds generic/foreign, but they really are the best media out there. Good luck! Let me know if you run across any issues. I will be updating the guide to 'Revision 3' in the next month or so :)
