** GUIDE UPDATED: MARCH 14, 2010 **
All,
This is “The Complete Blu-Ray Backup Guide by milOtis”
- How to make a 1:1 1080p Blu-Ray Backup (to BD-R/RW)
- How to make a BD5 1080p Blu-Ray Backup (to DVD-R)
I have made my guide in the form of a PDF file, so that it is universal, and also because it is around 30 pages, with multiple images. The guide is an easy step-by-step method, with screenshots for each and every step along the way. The guide includes how to backup a Blu-Ray disc to another Blu-Ray disc, as well as how to backup your Blu-Ray discs to BD-5 backups (burned to DVD-R), but still 1080p and full 5.1 audio! This is the only guide you will ever need to backing up Blu-Ray discs to BD-R/RW or DVD-R/RW
NOTE: The DVD backup method is NOT an MPEG2-encoded backup! The files are still 1080p AVCHD Blu-Ray files, and playable on any Blu-Ray player, including the PS3. The DVD method for backing up will NOT play on a standard set-top DVD player.
NOTE: Neither the creator of this guide, nor any makers of the included software, will be held responsible in any way for the use or misuse of this material. This tutorial was created for those who want to protect their Blu-Ray investments, but do not have the technical knowledge on how to perform the backup process, as it is somewhat complicated. As previously stated, this guide is only to be used by those who own the Blu-Ray discs that they are backing up. You are prohibited from using this tutorial on discs obtained through rental or subscription services. Any use of this guide for all legal and/or illegal purposes is the sole responsibility of the end user. This guide comes with no expressed or implied warranty or guarantee of support, of any kind.
GUIDE DOWNLOAD LINK:
The above link contains the PDF guide. The guide itself contains links to the latest release of each individual piece of software that you need, and I do recommend getting the software from the latest download links located in the guide. If the need arises, I will update the guide with any new information or techniques that simplify and enhance the backup process, so you can rest assured this guide will always be up to date. Make sure to always download the link in this post to get the latest version of the guide.
ENJOY!

Thanks a lot for posting this blu-ray back-up guide. This personally I think, is the best guide out there although I’m having a slight problem with BD Rebuilder not recognizing my virtual drive that Daemon Tools just created. I’ve carefully followed the guide word for word but still can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. I’d really appreciate any help you could render, thanks !!!
Do you use content filtering plugins? I’d be pretty [expletive removed] interested in knowing
Thanks for the reply Mr. Theme. I’m not aware that I’m using any filtering plug-ins but I solved the problem. I just needed to install the UDF driver and it started working. Thanks anyway !!!
Thanks for the excellent guide, but having a problem with the AVCHD Patcher… When I drag the index.bdmv to it, says invalid format…. any ideas waht i might have done wrong…?
Not working under windows 7…
I am updating the guide for Windows 7, as I now have it installed on my laptop finally. Expect an update soon (within the next week or so)
This works ok for me under win7 ultimate x64. I do get errors but dont know if its me or app
As of Mar 22 2010 I am not able to save the PDF.It says file damaged and could not be repaired..Maybe it’s just me though.
File is fine, and accessible. Do you have a PDF reader installed like Adobe Acrobat? You cannot view PDFs natively in Windows, you must download a viewer.
Any ideas what I can do about this?

Hey,
Your guide is great and well detailed i just did all the step im trying to copy a blu ray that is 41 GB onto a 25 GB. after all the process i started watching the movie in my ps3 its working great but looks like half of the movie is missing any idea what ive could of did wrong. (it stop after 1 hour and 7 minutes then restarts to the biginning like the rest of the movie is missing).
Thanks for the help,
RICk
I stumbled upon your guide and it actually has inspired me to buy a Blu-ray burner. I have a large Blu-ray collection and would LOVE to back them up to keep the originals free of fingerprints etc… I look forward to trying this guide as soon as I acquire a burner. Thanks!
That’s awesome to hear Mike! I definitely recommend the Pioneer BDR-203. If you want a newer model than the 203, then I still recommend sticking with the Pioneer brand. They are by far the more reliable CD/DVD/BD burners on the market. I would not trust my burns to any other brand. Also, when you end up buying blank media, always go for the Taiyo-Yuden brand. I know that sounds generic/foreign, but they really are the best media out there. Good luck! Let me know if you run across any issues. I will be updating the guide to ‘Revision 3′ in the next month or so
Whoa, that is weird…I have never heard of that. Try playing the “00000.m2ts” file on your computer, after BD Rebuilder is complete (before you burn). Is the file 1hr and 7minutes, or does it continue on? If it is only that long, then did you rip the disc to the harddrive first, before running it through BD Rebuilder? I know that when you rip directly from the disc to the final output you can have problems, which is why I always recommend making an image of the source disc, on your HDD first. Let me know what you find; I am curious if I can make my guide better,
Some BD discs require EXACT versions of the support software, like AVISynth. Here is your problem…
“– AVISYNTH Version: 2.5.8.0, not recommended version”
