That is the thing though....it usually is, and will suggest spelling for 99% or words I come across...there are just a few that I guess never made it into the mozilla database. :) Thanks for reading!

I just experienced the same problem with Thunderbird not recognizing my spelling. I guess I'm becoming old and forgetful of my literary heritage. I generally refer and defer to the Oxford Dictionary since I assume the Oxford English types ought to know something about their native language.

Consulting my hard copy Oxford Concise English dictionary, it spells the word "occurrence". When I type it into my Thunderbird message, the spell checker accepts this spelling. I find it curious that Thunderbird's spell checker isn't sufficiently intelligent as to suggest this spelling.

It's spelled "occurrence." I'm not sure why Firefox didn't tell you it was misspelled; I found this page when I went to look up the word after I also spelled it "occurance" and I'm using Firefox.

Yeah, I guess Mozilla just doesn't know it. I have actually run across a few other normal English words that it underlines as misspelled, yet MS Word and Google know perfectly. Hmm.

Because if not I've been spelling it wrong for awhile.
