I guess I'm becoming old and forgetful of my literary heritage. I generally refer and defer to the Oxford Dictionary since I assume the Oxford English types ought to know something about their native language. Consulting my hard copy Oxford Concise English dictionary, it spells the word "occurrence". When I type it into my Thunderbird message, the spell checker accepts this spelling. I find it curious that Thunderbird's spell checker isn't sufficiently intelligent as to suggest this spelling. I just experienced the same problem with Thunderbird not recognizing my spelling.
