Well, I have come to a crossroads in my life.  A despearte and dire situation of which there is no escaping.  I feel like I am being torn left, right, up and down…every whichway but my own true…Ok, ok, so it’s not THAT dire or desperate…in fact, it is a blessing to have a problem like this.  Many people cannot even afford shelter, and here I am whining about if I should get a $1,400 guitar, or wait to get a $2,800 camera.  Wow, I feel so selfless right now.

Ok, anyway, so for the past 5 year, literally, I have been pining away for a certain classical guitar, but other things seemed to keep getting in the way.  A new computer, a new car, another kind of guitar (12 string), a video camera, another still camera.  Well, finally, I am down to only wanting 2 things left…(for now).

I have the choice between a Godin Multiac Grand Concerts SA classical/electric guitar -or- a Canon 5D Mark II digital SLR camera.  The difference in price is pretty high, but I have some trade in value when it comes to the camera situation.  See, right now I have about 3/4th saved up for the guitar, or about 1/3rd for the camera.  Up until last night I didn’t have to choose.  I was 100% set on the guitar…then my friend, Mindy, brought it to my attention that the Canon 5D I have been wanting has an updated version coming out.  So of course, I looked it up immediately and yes, indeed, the Canon 5D Mark II is to be released at the end of November.  If you have not checke dout the stats of this camera, I suggest you do so at this point.  Do a Google search for “Canon 5D Mark II”, and just bask in the glory of the same photos.  This is a full-frame sensor digital SLR (i.e. as good as they get), 22megapixels, Digic 4 Image Processor, 4fps, and get this – full 1080p video recording.  Well, I honestly cannot ask for more features out of a camera.  The 5D itself was overly impressive, and now this 5D Mark II…well, it just seems to me that Canon could have eleased this thing 3 years from now and still been leaps and bounds ahead of Nikon, but I am not complaining about the month-away release date :)   But to be balance and fair, why on earth did Canon add 1080p video recording to this? What professional photographer is EVER going to use that feature? None that I know except maybe to play around in a non-professional manner.  I know, I know…Canon did this to bridge the gap between professional and consumer buyers in hopes that the soccer mom might spring for one of these because it can do both video and photo, and it definitely a major upgrade from those little point-and-shoot cameras.  However, I am very interested to shoot some video using my f/1.4 lens.  The depth of field in the shots will be stunning, albeit only 30fps.

So, what do I do? This is my dillemma.  Do I get the guitar I have been wanting for years in the next couple weeks, and hold off on the camera? Or do wait until January and get the latest release in this camera family (5D) that I have been wanting for about 2 years?  I absolutely LOVE playing classical guitar, and nothing relaxes me more after a long day of work, but I am also obsessed with quality, and although I have a nice digital SLR now (Canon 40D), the 5D Mark II is like a 200% upgrade in quality and features.

So, what do I do? Comment and let me know.  I know the Christian thing to do would be to sell both, give the money to charity and just be happy/cpntent with what I already have, and spend more time with my family.  Ok, there I said it, now, give me the selfish answer.
