I’m sick of logging in!

If you haven’t notice by now, nearly ever single site requires you to log-in.  Even the small sites, that really have nothing to offer from a membership, require that you make a free account before you are able to access their content, and frankly I am sick of it!  I can understand if a site requires a login to be approved for security reasons, so they are not ovverrun by idiots and searchbots, but most sites out there are meant to be public, and should start acting that way.  Think about it…what if Google made you log-in to search? Think about how much of a pain that would be.  Well, right now it is pretty much down to everything but that.  Many times I will search Google to find an answer to a specific problem I am having, and only ONE site out there has a thread on it, and only ONE person has made a post about it.  So I click it and lo and behold…”Please login to view this content”.  Dang it!  And since it is nowhere else to be found on the internet, I am FORCED to make a free account, click the activation email, THEN I get to log-in and view their “oh so precious” content.  So anyway, having used the internet since the early 90′s, I have a login for almost every major message board and site out there.  I even try my common login usernames/passwords when I reach one of these sites, and half the time it lets me in.  I must have registered years ago, and forgotten.  Sometimes it surprises me when my login works, lol.  But alas many times that isn’t the case.  Just recently I had a question about some video editing technique, and only one guy on this one forum was talking about how he did it, so I had to make an account, log in, then read his posts.

I am just so sick of it.  Having to log-in to view simple content is ridiculous.  This is not even priveledged information…it is all public domain, so why require a login?  What if your TV didn’t turn on until you logged in? Or specific channels didn’t work until you typed in your username and password EVERY time.

Well, many people are probably reading this wondering “What’s the big deal? I just login once every couple months, and my computer remembers it in my cookies everytime I go back to the site” – nice security risk there; keep it up!

I certainly understand where your coming from with being sick of logging in. I’d agree that many forums should make their content public, maybe just make it so that you must be logged in to post. In terms of google requiring you to log in to preform a search, that’s actually a really good idea. wtf you ask? Well, from an advertising perspective, a huge database of every search you’ve ever made sounds like good targeted advertising to me :)

BTW, testing your fucking ***** widget :)
