Well, it has been a long time since I posted on here, but all due to normal or extenuating circumstances, I promise you that. So the last few weeks in a nutshell have been as follows…my wife gave birth to our first child this past month. Not only has that kept up super busy, but I’ve just been totally enthralled and wrapped up in awe with him since he was born. My wife is a champ, Kev is a champ, and everyone is healthy and getting back to normal. My wife stays home with the baby, on her maternity leave (yet she has people from work calling, and sometimes she has to work remotely, which totally defeats the purpose of a maternity “leave”) but she wears so many hats at her job, they just can’t live without her, which makes me pretty proud of her
Also, he was born 3 weeks early, so we’ve had some jaundice and other preemie-baby issue to deal with, but as I said, everyone is on schedule and normal with their health and development, both mom and baby, which is all that matters.
Also, the following week/weekend, I had two weddings to film, and one of them was an Indian wedding, which, don’t get me wrong, was very interesting, and exciting to shoot actually, but come on…8am to Midnight? Well honestly, I should have charged more, but overall, it was a good experience. So that took place April 19th, not to mention the family party that took place two days before on April 17th, which was another 2 hours. I know, I know, it sounds like I am whining, but I’m not…guess I am just spoiled by all the American weddings I’ve done.
This was a video wedding like the first, but also photography as well, so double the fun/work, but much shorter, from 9am to 4pm, which is definitely doable. My video guy did great, and the photos came out well…I was able to narrow down 950 to 450 final photos. Some photographers delete less, but I am very picky with what is considered a good photograph. I might have some photos that came out great, but if I have better ones I cull it down even more after that. I will probably get to the video in 2-4 weeks, but at least I was able to upload their photos while they were still on their honeymoon. I password protected their site until they tell me to remove the security, so at some point you should be able to view the photos here – StanAndAmy.com. I think getting the couple a website and putting their photos on their is much better than a company link like ‘pixelgrill.com/public/clientname’ etc…just gives it a nice personal touch, plus it’s only $5-$7 for a dot com these days.
Soooooo, after the baby coming, and multiple weddings in the same weekend, there come certain consequences…yeah, my flat-footed curse came back to haunt me for the following week, actually, all the way up until today. Today is the first day I haven’t had to walk with a cane since that weekend. So, what happened? Stress fractures, ugg, no fun. but they healed themselves, I just had to take it easy for a few weeks. Last time this pain flared up, about a year ago on another dual-wedding weekend, I stayed off it for a couple days and it went away, but this time it was much worse, I guess due to running around all week for Kevin’s birth in the week leading up to the two weddings I had to shoot. So anyway, I felt like an old man, and looked like one two…hobbling around on a cane, ha.
That’s the last few weeks in a nutshell…well I guess not a nutshell or else thus post wouldn’t be this long. Ok, forget the nutshell.
